To the women who watch my baby while I am away, Thank You.

Updated: Jul 31, 2018

If you would have asked me two years ago if I was nervous about my child going to daycare the answer would have been a definitive, “YES.” Picking out a daycare for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make, not just for the hefty chunk of change that goes along with childcare, but because you are entrusting these individuals with your most precious gift – your baby. You scour the internet, ask friends and complete strangers for recommendations, google and then try to un-google for the sheer fear that it brought you – and finally decide to take the plunge. I can remember those first few weeks and months, and so can his teachers probably. I was that mom you guys, that mom that every daycare probably dreads .. I called EVERY. SINGLE. DAY that first year.

21 months later, I can honestly say that putting G bug in daycare was one of the best decisions I could have made. He absolutely LOVES it. Sure, he was sick that first year probably more than he was actually at school, but he has learned so much and I am so thankful for these women. They love my baby like he were their own. For the eight hours I am away working, they are there right beside him – encouraging, witnessing his firsts, teaching and helping him grow.

So, thank you.

Thank you for loving our babies on their worst days and their best.

For being there to celebrate their first steps and their first words - and for teaching them sign language when they are too little to talk.

For laughing with them and cuddling with them.

For helping them to transition from bottle to sippy to big boy cup, from crib to cot and everything in between.

It is so easy to drop your child off or pick them up and walk out the door, so today I want to say thank you. Thank you to every teacher, daycare worker, grandparent, and/or friend who steps up while us working moms have to step out. Thank you for loving our babies and for sharing in our joys as if they were your own.

And to the mama whose heart is heavy trying to decide on daycare, just know that when you find the right one it can be the best decision you make.
