The illusion of the perfect mom.

Take a second and look around at all of the working moms you know or maybe even don't know. Imagine their mornings. Do they appear to have it all together?

We live in a society where everything in our lives is captured and shared by a Snapchat, or Instagram, or Facebook post of one Pinterest perfect moment. Most people don't want to post about the messy real life moments.

Which means we judge, and compare our lives to someone else's highlight reel.

Don't get me wrong I live for Pinterest and all things pretty and organized and I appreciate Facebook and how it brings people together. But wouldn't it be nice if we could talk about what it is really like being a working mom? To talk openly about the daily struggles instead of putting on a facade that we have it all together - when in fact most days I for one, do not.

Thankfully, I have a few mama friends who I can truly vent to about the day to day struggles of being a working mom because they are living it too. It is a complete judge free zone. They have seen me at my absolute worst. We have cried together, laughed together and reassured one another that this too shall pass.

Mama, NO ONE has it all together. Every single one of us has our days. Even the mama who strolls into work on time with hair done to perfection. Makeup, envy worthy. The mama sipping her non fat, soy, iced chai latte, whose children probably slept in so she could get a workout in this morning.

YEP, even her.

Trying to be a Pinterest worthy mom is exhausting, especially while working. I am OK in admitting that I don't have it all together, and you should be too. Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to be each others sounding boards without fear of judgement or criticism.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to openly say, "Sorry I'm late, my toddler refused to wear pants and then I couldn't find my keys. Like literally I dismantled part of my house for 30 minutes to find them still in the door from when I unlocked it yesterday."

This, this is real life.

Or when your 14 year old texts you while you are at work to say, "Can you pick up some more chocolate milk?" "I forgot my football cleats." "Mom?" "Mom?" Perfect, because that is doable with me STILL. AT. WORK.

Or when you want to start trying to feed your kids more healthy, organic things but it's just too dang expensive and your toddler only wants pop tarts and pancakes for breakfast - so you are just over it.

Or when your laundry room looks like it absolutely exploded and you have washed the towels how many times now? Yeah, four because you keep forgetting to switch it over and you are trying to keep the mildew from setting in.

Or when the dishes in the sink are stressing you out just thinking about leaving them before you head off to work, so you forgo breakfast for a bit of clean up and you're now #hangry and pulling into Dunkin' Donuts.

This is real life.

Let go of perfection and stop comparing yourself to everyone else. If it works for you and isn't harming your children, then do YOU mama.

Everyone's morning is different, but no ones is perfect.

So if you are a mama who is perfectly, imperfect; a mama who, like me, even my highlight reel would be messy. Share this with your girlfriends and every working mama you know. Let's change the norm, embrace the imperfections and laugh together through the chaos.
